Paxman Scalp Cooling Chemotherapy

First in entire south Gujarat to prevent hair loss due to chemotherapy.

Experience of more than 3000 session of scalp cooling chemotherapy. The Paxman system is a scalp cooling device used during chemotherapy. It works by constricting blood vessels in the scalp, reducing blood flow and drug delivery to hair follicles.

This helps to minimize chemotherapy-induced hair loss (alopecia). It is worn before, during, and after infusion to protect fragile hair follicle cells.

Taking Control During Chemotherapy: A Closer Look at Paxman Scalp Cooling

If you or a loved one is beginning chemotherapy, you’re likely navigating a whirlwind of emotions and information. Among the many concerns, the prospect of hair loss can be particularly distressing. It’s more than just hair—it’s a part of your identity and a visible sign of your journey.

But what if there was a way to help preserve your hair?

At Surat Oncology Centre, we believe in providing care for the whole person, which is why we’re proud to offer the Paxman Scalp Cooling System—a clinically proven technology that can significantly reduce chemotherapy-induced hair loss.

What is Scalp Cooling and How Does it Work?

It might sound complex, but the concept is beautifully simple.

Protection & Preservation: Because the hair follicles are protected from the full dose of the drugs, they have a much higher chance of surviving and retaining your hair.

Constriction: The Paxman cap cools your scalp before, during, and after your chemotherapy infusion.

Reduced Blood Flow: This cooling causes the blood vessels in your scalp to gently constrict (narrow). Think of it like a garden hose—when you step on it, less water flows through.

Less Chemo Exposure: With less blood flow reaching the hair follicles, they are exposed to a lower concentration of the chemotherapy drugs.

What Can You Expect During a Scalp Cooling Session?

Knowing what to expect can ease a lot of anxiety. Here’s a general overview:

Before Treatment: A well-fitting, silicone cooling cap will be placed securely on your head. It’s connected to a machine that circulates a cooled liquid.

The Cooling Process: You’ll feel a definite cold sensation, which can be intense for the first 10-15 minutes. Many patients describe getting used to it, much like stepping into a cool pool. We recommend coming in with dry hair and wearing comfortable, warm layers.

During Chemo: The cap remains on throughout your infusion, continuously cooling your scalp.

After Chemo: The cooling continues for a period after your treatment is complete. The entire process is longer than the chemo itself, so plan for a lengthier appointment.

Tip: Bring a soft, warm hat or scarf to wear after the session, as your head will be cold! Many patients also enjoy bringing a distraction like a book, podcast, or music.

Is Scalp Cooling Right for Everyone?

Scalp cooling is a powerful tool, but it’s not suitable for all types of cancer or chemotherapy regimens. Its success can also vary from person to person.

Key factors to discuss with your oncologist and our cooling team include:

  • Your specific type of cancer (e.g., it is generally not recommended for certain blood cancers).
  • The type and dose of chemotherapy drugs you will receive.
  • Your overall health and personal tolerance for the cold.

The best way to know if Paxman Scalp Cooling is an option for you is to have an open conversation with your car e team.
